Catholic Education takes student protection matters very seriously. A commitment to the protection of children and young people and upholding of their right to a safe and secure environment is critical to educational experience.

Family Law Issues
St Michael’s School recognises that some families will be subject to family breakdown. In the absence of any notification to the contrary, it will be assumed that both parents retain a shared and equal parental responsibility for their children. This means that the school will recognise that each parent has equal duties, obligations, responsibilities and opportunities in relation to matters involving the school.
If any changes occur in your family relationships which have the potential to impact on the relationship between the school and your family, you are required to advise the school immediately. This includes providing copies of any court orders that may be obtained.
Where the school principal is provided with documentation regarding particular family or parenting orders, which are in place, the school staff will make every effort to ensure that such orders are adhered to in accordance with the conditions outlined.
Parents are advised that the school staff will under no circumstances take sides in such matters and will only act on the directions given by a court of law. It is up to the parents concerned to resolve the legal aspects in such cases and to provide the school principal with written proof of any alterations to decisions as handed down by the courts.
Parents are advised that the school can only act legally as per the directions outlined in legal documentation. The school expects parents to make arrangements for exchange of children at a venue off the school site.
Student Details
It is important that parents inform office staff of any changes in address, contact names, telephone numbers or other particulars on the original enrolment form. This information must be given to the school office, as accurate enrolment details are essential to the well-being of students. School staff need to be informed of any change as speedily as possible.
Parents can do this by emailing the school at secretary.gordonvale@cns.catholic.edu.au, or by going to the Parent Portal and changing these details online.
Student Care Insurance
Has your child had an accident or injury at school or in a school related activity such as inter-school sport or a school camp? If the answer is yes you may be entitled to claim for expenses under Catholic Education’s Student Care Insurance. It covers expenses such as medical costs (where the law allows), emergency transport, travel, home tuition and school fee relief. For further information click here.
